RAMMING MASSES
Dense dry/moist masses for jointless induction furnace linings
PRODUCT OVERVIEW
Ramming masses are monolithic refractories applied by manual or mechanical ramming to form dense, jointless linings. They are the preferred lining for induction melting furnaces, where excellent chemical resistance to the melt is essential and periodic re-lining is required.

KEY PROPERTIES
Application Method
Hand or mechanical ramming
Sintering Required
Yes โ gradual heat-up of new lining
Lining Life
100โ500 heats (grade-dependent)
Re-lining Speed
4โ8 hrs for induction furnace
Water Content
Dry to semi-dry (0โ3%)
Key Advantage
No joints โ zero melt infiltration

AVAILABLE GRADES
INSTALLATION NOTES
- 1
Clean furnace shell and apply one coat of release agent before ramming
- 2
Ram in 50โ75 mm layers using the correct pattern (spiral from bottom up)
- 3
Each layer must be uniformly compacted โ check with density gauge if available
- 4
For induction furnaces: sinter with a gradual heat-up using scrap metal charge
- 5
First heat: fill with metal charge, heat slowly to operating temperature, do not tap
- 6
Typical sintering cycle: 4โ8 hrs at full power to form a glassy bonded shell

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Ramming mass is a granular dry refractory mix that is rammed in place โ typically by pneumatic vibrators โ to form a monolithic lining. The most common use is induction furnace linings for melting iron, steel, copper and brass. It is also used for steel ladle bottoms, blast furnace troughs and EAF bottoms.
