What temperature can mullite bricks withstand?

Mullite bricks (60–75% Al₂O₃) are used up to about 1800°C, with PCE values around SK 37–38. Their defining strength is low creep — they resist slow deformation under load at temperature better than ordinary high-alumina brick, which is why they are preferred for load-bearing structures like blast furnace stoves and kiln car decks.

Where are mullite bricks used?

The main applications are blast furnace hot-blast stove checkerwork, glass furnace regenerators, ceramic kiln furniture and setter plates, petrochemical reformer furnaces, and steel ladle safety linings. Anywhere dimensional stability and creep resistance under long-term high-temperature load are critical, mullite is the preferred choice.

PRODUCT OVERVIEW

Mullite bricks are built around the mullite phase (3Al₂O₃·2SiO₂), giving 60–75% Al₂O₃ with outstanding creep resistance, low thermal expansion and excellent volume stability at high temperature. They hold their shape under sustained load far better than ordinary high-alumina brick, making them the default for hot-blast stoves and glass furnace checkerwork. CUMI markets its mullite range under the CUMILITE brand.
