ANDALUSITE BRICKS

Volume-stable andalusite bricks that mullitise in service for stoves, reheating furnaces and kilns

PRODUCT OVERVIEW

Andalusite bricks are made from the natural mineral andalusite (Al₂SiO₅), which converts to mullite plus a siliceous phase on firing — giving 55–63% Al₂O₃ with excellent volume stability, low creep and good thermal shock resistance. They are an economical step up from fireclay where dimensional stability under thermal cycling matters. CUMI supplies andalusite grades under the CUMILITE family.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Andalusite bricks are made from the natural mineral andalusite, which converts to mullite plus a siliceous phase when fired — a reaction called mullitisation. This in-situ reaction gives excellent volume stability and low creep, so the bricks hold their dimensions through repeated thermal cycles. They are an economical step up from fireclay where stability matters.
