FUSED CAST AZS BLOCKS

Melt-cast alumina-zirconia-silica blocks for glass furnace contact zones with exceptional corrosion resistance

PRODUCT OVERVIEW

Fused cast AZS (Alumina-Zirconia-Silica) blocks are produced by melting the oxide blend above 1800°C and casting it into dense, near-zero-porosity blocks. The zirconia content (33–41% ZrO₂) gives outstanding resistance to molten glass corrosion, making AZS the standard for glass tank sidewalls, throat and paving. Void-free (VF) casting types minimise glass defects (stones, blisters) in high-quality glass.

INSTALLATION NOTES

  1. 1

Heavy blocks — handle with rated lifting equipment and protect cast faces

  2. 2

Use zircon-based or AZS-compatible bedding mortar at joints

  3. 3

Plan controlled furnace heat-up; AZS exudes glassy phase (exudation) on first heat — design joints for it

  4. 4

Select VF (void-free) grade where glass quality (stone/blister-free) is critical

WHY BUY FROM SHANKER AGENCIES

Shanker Agencies supplies Calderys fused cast AZS blocks cut and sized to glass-furnace drawings. We advise on grade (33/36/41) and cast type by glass type, pull rate and tank zone.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

AZS stands for Alumina-Zirconia-Silica — the three main oxides in the block. Fused cast AZS is produced by melting the oxide blend above 1800°C and casting it into dense, near-zero-porosity blocks. The zirconia content (33–41% ZrO₂) is what gives the exceptional resistance to molten glass corrosion that makes AZS the standard for glass furnace contact zones.
