Acid Proof Cement for Chemical Linings

Acid proof cement is the bedding and jointing material that holds acid-proof brick and tile linings together and seals the joints against chemical attack. It is used in chemical plant floors, acid storage tanks, absorption and scrubbing towers, pickling tanks, effluent channels and chimney linings, wherever acid-resistant masonry is laid.

The main types are silicate-based (sodium or potassium water-glass with a silicofluoride hardener) for mineral acids and service up to ~1000°C, and resin-based (furan, epoxy, phenolic) for organic chemistry and combined acid-alkali exposure at lower temperatures. The right type depends entirely on the chemicals and temperature involved.

Use silicate cement for strong mineral acids (sulphuric, nitric, hydrochloric) and high temperature. Use furan resin for the broadest resistance including organic acids and mild alkali, and epoxy/phenolic for mechanical impact or food/pharma areas. Silicate is porous and acid-only; resins handle mixed and organic media. Match chemistry to your exposure.

Silicate cement is mixed with hardener in strict ratio and used within its pot life, applied over an installed membrane with full, void-free joints. Silicate joints must be cured ("soured" with acid wash) before chemical service per the supplier schedule. The membrane beneath is as important as the cement, both are specified together.
