Acid Resistant Tiles for Chemical Plants

Acid-resistant tiles are dense vitrified ceramic tiles for chemical-plant flooring, drainage trenches, secondary containment areas, dairy and brewery wash-down floors, and laboratory benches. Our tiles meet IS 4860 Class I: water absorption 2% max, compressive strength 69 MPa (700 kg/cm²) min and 1.5% max weight loss in the acid test. They resist most mineral and organic acids at room temperature.

Standard ceramic tiles have 5–15% porosity and absorb chemicals over time, leading to staining, cracking and floor failure. Acid-resistant tiles are vitrified to 2% max water absorption (IS 4860 Class I) and tested for weight loss in acid. They cost 3–6× more per square metre but last 10–20× longer in chemical environments.

Our acid-resistant tiles meet IS 4860 Class I: water absorption 2% max, compressive strength 700 kg/cm² min, flexural strength 100 kg/cm² min and 1.5% max weight loss in the acid test. Test values for each supply are available on request.

The standard tile is 230 × 115 × 20 mm. Other sizes and thicknesses can be supplied on request; send us the floor area, traffic and chemical exposure and we will confirm the format.

For most chemical floors: silicate cement (sulphuric, HCl, dilute acids, low cost), furan resin (best general resistance including organic acids), or epoxy resin (mechanical impact areas, food and pharma). Joint width is typically 3–6 mm. The membrane below the tile (bituminous or rubber) is just as important as the joint material, both must be specified together.
