HA-80 is the 78-82% Al₂O₃ grade in Shanker Agencies’ high alumina bricks range, rated for continuous service to 1800°C. In India it is also written AL-80 or 80% alumina. The nearest export designation is SK 38.

Reading an SK code correctly. SK (Seger Kegel) is a cone designation, and each step carries an accepted minimum Al₂O₃ content in trade practice. The dependable way to match an SK enquiry to a grade is that minimum alumina figure, which is how the equivalence above is derived. Note that a brick’s measured PCE and its SK trade grade are two different numbers and will not always agree. Suppliers also differ at the margins, most often around SK 34. When comparing offers, check Al₂O₃ and PCE together rather than the SK code alone.

Installation notes

  1. 1Store in dry conditions, protect from moisture and contamination before use
  2. 2Use matching high alumina mortar (same Al₂O₃ % as brick) for jointing
  3. 3Maintain joint thickness 1.5–3 mm for optimal bond integrity
  4. 4Follow controlled dry-out schedule: 20°C/hr to 110°C, hold 12 hrs, then 30°C/hr to operating temp
  5. 5Apply expansion allowances: 6–8 mm per metre for silica-bonded grades, 8–10 mm for Al₂O₃ >70%
